National Native American "40 Under 40 Award" Recipient

Our owner, Shayai Lucero, received the 2011 Native American 40 Under 40 Award from the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED) at the 36th Annual Indian Progress in Business Awards Event (INPRO) on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL.

Shayai is the first from the Pueblo of Laguna to be awarded the honor and one of three first-time recipients from the Pueblo of Acoma.

Who We Are

Our Owner

Shayai Lucero was born and raised on the reservations of the Pueblos of Acoma and Laguna.   She is a 2008 graduate of the University of New Mexico (B.S. Biology, Minor in Chemistry).  She is also a former Miss Indian World (1997).

Shayai is a lifelong student of the traditional Pueblo healing methods.  In 2005, she received her Certificate in Traditional Mexican Healing.  The certificate program was a multi-institutional program involving the University of New Mexico, La Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Morelos (Mexico) and el Centro de Desarrollo Humano hacia la Comunidad (Mexico).

Ms. Lucero and her husband, Aaron Fry, are raising their two young children in Laguna.

Certified Professional Floral Designer

LaDeen Roughsurface (Laguna) is a rarity!  She a Native American professionally trained floral designer.  She holds two diplomas (over 60 hours) in Basic Floral Design and Advance Floral Design from the New Mexico School of Floral Design.  LaDeen has designed floral arrangements for weddings, banquets, and many other special events.

Earth & Sky Floral Designs is the only retail floral shop in eastern Cibola County (Laguna/Acoma area) to have a professionally certified floral designer on staff.

Other Important People at Earth & Sky

In addition to Shayai and LaDeen, Shayai's family members will be in the shop helping to make the business a success.  You will see Shayai's parents Cecelia Lucero (Acoma) and Stanley Lucero (Laguna).  Also working at the shop will be her brother, Haitsi (Acoma/Laguna)

Earth & Sky is truly a family run business.  Shayai's two children, Kaweshchima or Maityaitsa will be accompanying her to work!  During the day, you may also see her son receiving lessons at the small "classroom" at the back of the shop because he is home schooled this year.  And "please beware" of Buddy, the loud barking family dog, who loves to greet all the customers.
